Young Women’s Leadership Academy up for 2015 national Blue Ribbon honor

The Young Women’s Leadership Academy, San Antonio’s only public all-girls school, is one of 26 in Texas nominated for a 2015 national Blue Ribbon honor, selected as an exemplary high-performing school. The school now will complete a rigorous application process and announcement of the national award winners will be made in September. HallofFameGlossonwebClyde Pearson Glosson, a 1965 graduate of then Wheatley High School, gets a first look at a poster depicting a plaque bearing his likeness and career highlights that will be on display at Alamo Stadium, along with plaques for other honorees in the inaugural class of SAISD’s Athletic Hall of Fame. The honorees were inducted in the Hall of Fame during a ceremony Feb. 21.

 

GammawebMembers of Gamma Sigma Girls, from Lanier and Burbank high schools, braved cold weather Feb. 27 to help construct a new home through the Habitat for Humanity program. Community service is one component of the leadership development program offered by Girl Scouts of Southwest Texas, in partnership with area school districts.
