Questions & Answers:
Bond 2020 Renovations at Carvajal ES

What is the status of renovations at Carvajal Elementary?
Carvajal Elementary renovations are currently in design. To help address industry pressures during the pandemic, the bond projects were placed in phases to stagger construction.  The Carvajal renovation project, which was placed in Phase 3, came in over budget, based on initial designs. The district is working with the architect to bring the project within budget.

What is included in the renovation?
The planned renovation includes a substantial overhaul of the campus, including classrooms; science labs; P.E. support spaces; cafeteria and kitchen; main office and main entrance; mechanical systems; window replacement; parking lots and driveways; and playground.

Additionally, the campus will receive security and technology upgrades, along with all SAISD schools.

When will construction begin on our school?
The district must first complete the design phase, which is expected to last through summer 2026, with construction beginning fall 2026.

Will students need to be relocated to another campus during construction?
Decisions about project phasing and accommodations will be made when the project enters the construction phase. The district will communicate logistics with campus leadership to share with families.

When will we be able to use the newly renovated spaces?
Once the project is completed, a move-in date that coincides with a school break would need to be selected for move-in to the new spaces.

How will parents and students have a voice in the process?
Your principal will be forming a Project Advisory Team that includes parents, students, teachers, and community members to represent the larger Carvajal Elementary community. The group will provide input on the project during the design phase.

How can I stay informed about the progress of the project?
In addition to future community meetings and periodic updates from your campus, you can follow progress:
