Art I (#6411)

Art provides a study of the art elements and principles through experience with a variety of art media and tools in design, drawing, painting, printmaking, textiles, ceramics, and sculpture.

AP Art I (#6411Q)

Designed for students who have demonstrated serious interest in pursuing art as a career. Students will develop skills in studio art and begin building a portfolio. This class prepares students for upper-level art classes.

Art I Mediacom1 (#6511)

This course combines rigorous and relevant experiential study of modern, post-modern, and contemporary visual art and design with student learning in media literacy and technology applications.

Art Appreciation Dual Credit (#6473)

A general introduction to the visual arts designed to create an appreciation of the vocabulary, media, techniques, and purposes of the creative process. Students will critically interpret and evaluate works of art within formal, cultural, and historical contexts.

Art II Ceramics (#6418)

 

Students produce 2D and 3D clay forms. They explore surface treatments such as stamping, scraping, glazing, under-glazing, staining, painting, and firing.

Prerequisites: Art I; Students explore art ceramic methods.

Special Notes:  This course is offered as a Dual Credit course.


Art II Design (#6420)

 

Art Design is a studio project orientated class exploring different media areas of 2-Dimentional design. The emphasis of this course is to expose students to 2D art mediums and to build their creative skills through the elements and principles of design.

Art II Digital Art and Media (#6522)

 

Students work with paint and image manipulation software. Topics include creation of original digital artwork, input of pictures with scanning and video digitizing, image retouching, compositing and integration of text and image.

Art II Drawing (#6414)

Students develop and express original ideas and experiences through a variety of drawing media; explore and analyze art history and culture; and evaluate artwork through discussion and critique.

Art II Fibers (#6415)

Designed to introduce the student to the materials and techniques of weaving, fabric collage, cotton batik, and other experimental fiber processes. Students explore fiber art as a design form.

Art II Jewelry (#6416)

 

Students learn about the history of decorative adornment as well as offer a hands-on opportunity to design and create original jewelry of social and intensive self-value.

Students develop and express original ideas and experiences through a variety of paint media and techniques; explore and analyze art history and culture; and evaluate artwork through discussion and critique.

Art II Photography (#6419)

Introduces students to the Elements of Art and Principles of Design needed for creating photographs: including basic layout and design, color theory, shape, form, and composition. This course will familiarize the student with digital photographic equipment, software, materials, and methods through hands-on practice.

Art II Printmaking (#6413)

Students use principles and elements of design with emphasis on positive-negative space. They experiment with monoprints, multiple prints, reduction printings, and various materials, Students also study various processes such as relief, planography, intaglio, stencil, photographic, and papermaking.

Applied Music I (#6643)

Credit is awarded for private music study outside of school hours and off campus when administered according to the plan described in Bulletin GEO 62105 of TEA. The student must also be enrolled concurrently in a music course offered by the school. The private teacher must cover all the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) in the course of study. The Band, Choral, or Orchestra Director shall be the Teacher of Record and will verify the quality of the work.

Students in this AP Art will develop a drawing portfolio. This course is designated for the talented art student who wishes to pursue college-level studies in art. The course is rigorous and requires 25-35 high quality pieces by the end of the year.

AP Art History (#6432)

Introductory college course in the history of art. The curriculum includes basic information about artists, schools and movements, chronological periods and specific dates and the subjects, styles, and techniques of particular works of art. Students will prepare for the Honors Exam through intensive work with essay writing, artwork image recognition, and group projects.

AP Music Theory (#6695)

AP Music Theory is an introductory college-level music theory course. Students cultivate their understanding of music theory through analyzing performed and notated music theory through analyzing performed and notated music as they explore concepts like pitch, rhythm, form, and musical design.

Band I - IV (#6681, 6682, 6683, 6684)

During the fall semester, marching band is the primary performing organization. In the spring semester, students are placed into a concert band class. Appearances at after-school activities require a substantial amount of out-of-school practice for students enrolled in the course.

Prerequisites:   Placement from Audition/Teacher recommendation or completing prior course/year.


Choir I - IV (#6621, 6622, 6623, 6624)

 

Students will study basic vocal and choral techniques including tone production, breath control, vowel shape, consonant articulation, balance, blend, and artistic interpretation of a variety of musical styles and genres. Music theory and sight singing are also studied. Performance opportunities are provided through participation in a variety of concerts, UIL Solo & Ensemble Contest, and UIL Concert & Sight-Reading Contest. Attendance at rehearsals and performances outside school hours is required.

Color Guard I-IV (#6861, 68262, 6863, 6864)

Students will learn movement and equipment basics on flag and rifle, performance observation and analysis, and basic design and dance choreography.

Prerequisites:   Placement from Audition/Teacher recommendation or completing prior course/year.


Guitar I-IV (#6541, 6542, 6543, 6544)

Course is designed to study basic, beginning guitar and guitar styles. Students will learn basic techniques, and standard strumming styles for accompaniment. Students will learn how to read music notation and chord symbols.

IB Visual Arts Higher Lever Year I (#6437)

The IB visual arts course encourages students to challenge their own creative and cultural expectations and boundaries. Students study the specialization of performance techniques and practice for instrumental musicians. Wind/percussionist must be enrolled in band class. String players must be enrolled in orchestra class. Attendance at rehearsals/performances required.

Prerequisites:   Placement from Audition/Teacher recommendation or completing prior course/year.


Jazz Band I-IV (#6651, 6652, 6653, 6654)

 

Course is designed to study jazz literature and techniques. Wind/percussionist must be enrolled in band class. String and keyboard players need not be enrolled in band/orchestra class. Attendance at rehearsals/performances required.

Prerequisites:   Placement from Audition/Teacher recommendation

Special Notes:  Must be currently enrolled in a Band course


Mariachi I-IV (#6811, 6812, 6813, 6814)

Course is designed to study Mariachi instrumental and vocal techniques, while developing performance skills. Mariachi literature is studied and learned. Attendance at rehearsals and performances outside school hours is required.

Term:  Full Year Credits:  1.0 Grades: 9th - 12th

Prerequisites:   Placement from Audition/Teacher recommendation or completing prior course/year.


Music Appreciation I (#6491)

 

This is a non-performance class that explores music of various styles through listening experiences. Investigations of composers and performers integral to the styles are included in the class. Activities include listening, discussions, projects, and presentations on each style of music.

Term:  Full Year Credits:  1.0 Grades: 9th - 12th


Music Production I-II (#6690, 6691)

Students will study ways of producing sound, learn to manipulate and blend sound, and compose original music using digital technology. This will be done through studying musical construction and composition, musical styles, physics of sound, principles of tonal synthesis, and MIDI applications.

Term:  Full Year Credits:  1.0 Grades: 9th - 12th

Prerequisites:   Read musical notation at basic level, math skills, experience working with computers and peripherals. Piano experience is helpful. Complete course I to advance to II.


Music Theory I-II (#6641, 6642)

Students will study the vocabulary and terminology of notation, ear training, sight singing, rhythmic harmonic and melodic dictation, part writing, chord progressions, and form analysis. Students enrolled in this course are recommended to have access to a keyboard instrument for practice and assignments.

Term:  Full Year Credits:  1.0 Grades: 9th - 12th

Prerequisites:   Complete course I to advance to II


Musical Theatre I-IV (#6445, 6446, 6447, 6448)

Students will receive comprehensive and rigorous instruction in varied styles of musical theatre, with special attention to stage movement, vocal technique, choreography, acting and characterization.

Term:  Full Year Credits:  1.0 Grades: 9th - 12th

Prerequisites:   Placement from Audition/Teacher recommendation or completing previous course/year.


Orchestra I-IV (#6671, 6672, 6673, 6674)

 

Students learn and develop technical skills and musical knowledge through the preparation and performance of orchestral literature. Attendance at rehearsals and performances outside school hours is required.

Term:  Full Year Credits:  1.0 Grades: 9th - 12th

Prerequisites:   Placement from Audition/Teacher recommendation or completing previous course/year.


Performance Ensemble I-IV, Dance Team (#6591, 6592, 6593, 6594)

This class involves a physical education and fine arts equivalent curriculum that includes fitness, leadership skills, and fundamental skills in ballet, jazz, modern, pom, high kick, and musical/ theatrical dance, etc. Participation includes attendance at all designated activities, summer camp, practices, competitions, clinics, and enrollment in the required class.

Term:  Full Year Credits:  1.0 Grades: 9th - 12th

Prerequisites:   Students must meet eligibility requirements and must audition for Dance Team. Advancement of course number by completing prior course / year.

Special Notes:  Students taking this course will be awarded one full credit of fine arts along with the .5 PE substitution credit.


Principles of Dance I-IV (#6611, 6612, 6613, 6614)

 

Principles of Dance consists of introduction to various genres of dance including ballet, jazz, tap, modern, ethnic/folk, musical theater, and ethnic/folk dance. This course is an introductory foundational course focusing on technical development, vocabulary, coordination, general principles, basic skill movement for dance, and choreographic principles. The course will enhance collaborative skills through ensemble performances while improving confidence and poise. Dance students will further have opportunities to perform. No former dance experience is necessary.

Term:  Full Year Credits:  1.0 Grades: 9th - 12th

Prerequisites:   Advancement of course number by completing prior course/year.


Technical Theatre I-IV (#6461, 6462, 6463, 6464)

Designed for the student interested in pursuing the craft of stage design, execution, and theatre management. The student will explore scenery, properties, lighting, costumes, makeup, sound, public relations and research and design.

Term:  Full Year Credits:  1.0 Grades: 9th - 12th

Prerequisites:   Placement from Audition/Teacher recommendation or completing previous course/year.


Theatre I-IV (#6441, 6442, 6443, 6444)

 

Provides the student with an intense sampling of all facets of theatre. The subject matter will range from stage terminology, structure of plays and early theatrical history to vocal and movement training for the actor.

Term:  Full Year Credits:  1.0 Grades: 9th - 12th

Prerequisites:   Placement from Audition/Teacher recommendation or completing previous course/year.

Special Notes:  Theatre I may be offered as a Dual Credit and Dual Language course.

Theatre Production I-IV (#6451, 6452, 6453, 6454

This select ensemble by audition only will perform advanced ensemble music such as jazz, contemporary music, and madrigal styles. Choreography could be a part of the repertoire. This is a specialized group of singers/performers who learn and perform music outside of the Choir II, III, IV repertoire. Attendance at rehearsals and performances outside school hours is required.

Term:  Full Year Credits:  1.0 Grades: 9th - 12th

Prerequisites:   Membership in Choir course and placement by audition or completing prior course/year.
