The San Antonio ISD Early Childhood Education Department provides an acclaimed, high-quality educational program to eligible 3 and 4 year-olds through its state and district funded pre-kindergarten and federally funded Head Start programs.

Our Early Childhood Education Program is designed to provide students a strong foundation for kindergarten and future learning through a curriculum that addresses their social, emotional, physical and cognitive development.

Curriculum

Head Start and PreK Curriculum in SAISD

SAISD is committed to closing the achievement gap by providing quality curriculum content. The use of a common curriculum provides children with equity and fidelity of curriculum implementation.
Our state adopted, board approved curriculum is Scholastic PreK on My Way (PKOMW). During the 2023-2024 school year, Scholastic PKOMW replaced Frog Street Press as our Core Curriculum. Scholastic PKOMW is 100% aligned to the 2022 PK Guidelines and Head Start Performance Standards.

Scholastic PreK on My Way should be implemented in our:

Prekindergarten monolingual classrooms
Head Start Prekindergarten monolingual classrooms
Prekindergarten Dual Language classrooms
Head Start Dual Language classrooms

Head Start

Head Start is currently offered at 24 campus across San Antonio ISD. The mission of Head Start is "Preparing Children and Engaging Families for School Readiness and Life-Long Success".
