Kendra will attend Trinity University and will study biochemistry, molecular biology, and psychology. 

Why did you choose this pathway?
I fell in love with chemistry my sophomore year of high school when I took On-Ramps Chemistry. Moreover, because of my personal struggles with mental health, I aspire to become a Psychiatric Doctor of Nursing Practice and I feel like these majors combine subjects I love and that will help better my understanding in my future field.

Who has been most influential to you in your education this far and why?
"My mother, Zulema Saldivar, has been the most influential person in my life and in my education. My mom immigrated from Mexico at 14 and recently completed her Bachelor's Degree. My mom has always believed in me and in my dreams, and has assured me that I am destined for nothing but greatness. My mom has seen me at my worst, and she inspires me every day. My dad, Raul Saldivar, has also inspired my educational journey by reminding me the importance of balance, and reassuring me that as long as I try my best, that is more than enough. I strive to be a role model for my little sisters Nadya and Paulina Saldivar, and I hope I make them proud. They do so much for me, like getting to school nearly an hour before their classes start, so that I can make it in time to mine. I couldn’t thank them enough.

However, while my family has been my rock and support at home, individuals such as Mr. Vargas, Mrs. Byrne-Sharp, Mr. Quinones, and Mr. Strawn have been my anchors at school. These people have been there for me throughout my high school journey. They have helped pull me out of deep periods of self-doubt that I could not have crawled out of alone and I know I can count on them, no matter what. I would not be the student, or the person I am today without this team of people. “It takes a village”, and I don’t know where I would be without mine."

How have SAISD schools shaped you into the person you are today?
SAISD schools likely shaped me into the person I am today by providing a foundation for my education and enabling my own personal growth as a student, athlete, and a person. Fox Tech HS in SAISD has offered many experiences for me to network and find new opportunities for after high school life. Fox Tech HS in SAISD has helped me to get out of my comfort zone and to try new things both in and out of the classroom setting.

What has been the biggest challenge you have overcome during your education so far and how did you overcome it?
The greatest challenge I have faced and overcome during my high school career is learning how to balance high school and college life. Being involved in a variety of extracurriculars such as volleyball, soccer, NHS, and student council at my high school, but also being enrolled in a full course load at San Antonio College to obtain an Associates Degree in Science this upcoming May has been a challenge. I have been pushed to my limits and learned how to manage my time and get things done. This rigorous high school experience has definitely shaped my mindset on achieving my dreams and has really put into perspective that I am very capable of reaching my big goals for the future.
