You most likely will see Juarez Elizarraraz smiling from ear to ear. That big grin stems from the long list of wins the Advanced Learning Academy senior has been accruing recently.

“I like all the wins. Even the little ones,” Elizarraraz said. “Because they build up to the finale.”

Elizarraraz is gaining valuable work and life experience as an intern with the SAISD Family and Community Engagement department. He is on the swim team that just won the district championship. And he plays harp with the ALA-CAST Tech-Fox Tech varsity mariachi group that earned Sweepstakes with straight Division 1 ratings at the UIL State Meet.

Elizarraraz brings that same energy to succeed to his district internship. Working with content creation and marketing, the senior is showcasing video editing skills he first learned as a fifth grader at ALA.

“We went from watching a movie in the first semester to making our own movie in the next semester,” he said. “We made a Star Wars parody off the new sequels. It opened the filmmaking passion in me.” 

Since then, he’s gone on to ace video competitions – earning Best Picture in the local 90-Second Newberry Competition twice and numerous other accolades. And now he is getting work experience, an additional bonus on his resume and college applications.

For his internship, he is currently working on a video that shows families how to best navigate the Systems of Care website to find needed resources. 

“With the internship we are trying to engage with the community and create content that’s relatable, that’s more engaging, and that shows we really care about the community. I’m kind of like the bridge right now,” he said.

He enjoys working with the Family and Community Engagement Team and says internships are an experience all students should have, as they help students learn how to professionally interact with adults and supervisors. 

“I moved schools a long time ago to find my people and I did,” Elizarraraz said. “My time at SAISD taught me to develop my passions early, and how we can achieve more when we are all working together. The SAISD Familia encourages everyone to show up, work hard and put your best foot forward. I will always be proud about my education and where I came from.”

Lo más probable es que vea a Juárez Elizarraraz sonriendo de oreja a oreja. Esa gran sonrisa se debe a la gran lista de éxitos que el alumno de último año ha conseguido estos últimos años en la Advanced Learning Academy.

"Me gustan todos los triunfos. Incluso los más pequeños”, dijo Elizarraraz. "Porque se acumulan hasta el final."

Elizarraraz está adquiriendo una valiosa experiencia vital y laboral como pasante en el departamento de Participación Familiar y Comunitaria del SAISD. Está en el equipo de natación que acaba de ganar el campeonato distrital. Y toca el arpa con el grupo estudiantil de mariachis ALA-CAST Tech-Fox Tech que acaba de obtener el galardón con puntuaciones altas en la División 1 en el encuentro estatal de la UIL.

Elizarraraz aporta esa misma energía para triunfar en sus prácticas en el distrito. En su trabajo de creación de contenidos y márketing, el estudiante de último año demuestra sus conocimientos de edición de vídeo, que aprendió por primera vez en ALA cuando cursaba quinto grado.

“Pasamos de ver una película en el primer semestre a hacer nuestra propia película en el próximo semestre”, dijo. "Hicimos una parodia de Star Wars de las nuevas secuelas. Despertó en mí la afición por el cine". 

Desde entonces, no ha dejado de ganar premios en concursos de vídeo, como el de mejor película en el concurso local 90-Second de Newberry en dos ocasiones y otros muchos galardones. Y ahora está adquiriendo experiencia laboral, un plus en su curriculum vitae y en sus solicitudes para la universidad.

Como parte de sus prácticas, está trabajando en un vídeo que enseña a las familias la mejor manera de navegar por el sitio web de Sistemas de Atención para encontrar los recursos necesarios. 

"Con las prácticas intentamos acercarnos a la comunidad y crear contenidos que se puedan relacionar con ella, que sean más atractivos y que demuestren que realmente nos importa la comunidad. Soy como un puente en este momento", dijo.

Le gusta trabajar con el Equipo de Participación Familiar y Comunitaria y dice que las prácticas son una experiencia que todos los estudiantes deberían tener, ya que ayudan a los estudiantes a aprender a relacionarse profesionalmente con adultos y supervisores. 

"Me cambié de escuela hace mucho tiempo para encontrar a mi gente y lo hice," dijo Elizarraraz. "Mi tiempo en SAISD me enseñó a desarrollar pronto mis intereses, y lo mucho que podemos lograr cuando todos trabajamos juntos. La Familia SAISD anima a todos a presentarse, trabajar duro y dar lo mejor de sí mismos. Siempre estaré orgulloso de mi educación y de dónde vengo”.
