  • monitoring and making recommendations to improve educational conditions;
  • creating safe spaces that promote empowerment and belonging;
  • developing the capacity of all educators to provide a thriving, culturally sustaining learning environment; and
  • serving as a conduit to make meaningful connections with the community.

BEAC Bylaws

Juneteenth Parade

The BEAC General Body joined forces with the SAISD Transportation Department and the Office of Access and Enrollment to participate in the 25th Annual Juneteenth Parade. This event celebrates June 19th, a holiday commemorating the emancipation of enslaved Africans in the United States. Originating in Texas in 1865 after the Civil War, this day recognizes the proclamation of freedom for slaves as outlined in the 1862 Emancipation Proclamation.

AAABSE Teacher of the Year Awards and Student Scholarship Gala

The BEAC executive board had the privilege of attending the 9th Annual Outstanding Teacher of the Year Awards and Student Scholarship Gala, where our district received the Distinguished Support District award from the Alamo Area Alliance of Black School Educators.

TABSE State Conference

The BEAC Executive Board attended the Texas Alliance of Black School Educators (TABSE) in Houston, TX February 28 - March 3.

TABSE is an affiliate of the National Alliance of Black School Educators (NABSE) and is committed to improving the educational achievement of African-American students. TABSE believes in identifying and promoting activities designed to sensitize the public-at-large and educators specifically to the needs of African-American students in all areas of development.

A great time was had and lots of learning occurred to inform the work of the BEAC General Body. Vice President Sebastian and Trustee Torres will provide an update at an upcoming Board meeting.

Honoring SAISD Black Educators with Earned Doctorates

In the US, approximately 2% of the population have earned a doctoral degree. Of that group, Black doctors represent 8.7% (Statista 2024) of the earned doctorates. The BEAC of SAISD honors the resilience, fortitude, and strength of Black educators who have achieved this supreme accomplishment!
