Texas law requires school districts to distribute information to parents and guardians about the safe storage of firearms. Secure gun storage—locking firearms, keeping them unloaded, and storing them separately from ammunition—can save lives. The Texas DPS has created the Keep 'Em Safe Texas campaign, which offers free downloadable resources to promote safe gun storage. Districts must provide this information to the parent or guardian of each student enrolled in the district or school.
