What:

SAISD Foundation, and many donors, collaborate to distribute dorm room supplies to 200 recent SAISD graduates 
 
The dorm room starter pack includes a bed in a bag, towels, laundry bag, detergent, shower caddy, and luggage. Graduates who registered to attend the distribution and are in need of a computer for college also will be eligible to receive a laptop computer.

The SAISD Foundation is spearheading an effort to ensure the district’s newest alumni successfully start their college experience. The foundation will distribute dorm room supplies to 200 graduates from SAISD’s Class of 2024 who are college-bound and assigned to dorms this fall. At the distribution event, students will receive a dorm room starter pack, which includes a bed in a bag, towels, laundry bag, detergent, shower caddy, and luggage. Items and monetary gifts were donated at a community-wide drive in June.

Graduates who registered for the distribution event also will be eligible to receive a refurbished laptop computer thanks to the support of Methodist Healthcare Ministries and Compudopt. Compudotp is a national nonprofit organization that refurbishes donated computers, loads them with software, and partners to distribute them to increase digital access and equity. The devices come with two years of free technical support from Compudopt. 
 
Additionally, Whataburger will provide complimentary food for students at the distribution event as part of its "Feeding Student Success" program. 
 
For the second year, Joe A. Gamez Law Firm is the lead sponsor of the event.
