Welcome to the SAISD archives! Here, we are sharing some of the historical treasures that are being digitized as part of our ongoing effort to curate an online museum and image repository, documenting our district’s history.
San Antonio ISD, San Antonio’s founding school district, has served the heart of the Alamo City for more than 125 years. The city of San Antonio established San Antonio Public Schools in 1854, and the school system became an independent school district with the formation of its own Board of Trustees on May 2, 1899.
Through the years, as enrollment changed, schools have closed and merged, but the memories in those buildings are alive and formative to our community. The district is committed to retaining the histories of these buildings and the people who walked their halls.
Our SAISD archives allows us to curate and share some of those memories and artifacts that represent our district through the ages.
The process begins with documenting and sharing the histories of some of the schools closed in the 2023 rightsizing decision. This digital museum will be a living, growing collection of the artifacts of the schools closed in spring 2024, with the intent to grow to other closed schools and all district schools as the collection expands.
We invite community members to share artifacts and stories to help with this process.
Did you or a family member attend or work at a now-closed SAISD school? We would love to hear your stories and see your artifacts from the time spent at that school.
Submit your memories and visit this page regularly to view new additions as we continue to develop and expand our online museum.
