08/19/2024
Aug. 19, 2024 – San Antonio ISD has announced a series of public meetings to inform the community how the district will implement the repurposing of its vacant facilities. Seven meetings are scheduled from Aug. 20 through Sept. 5, with each meeting beginning at 6 p.m. at one of the district’s comprehensive high schools.

All are welcome to attend any of the following meetings:

Aug. 27 (Tues), 6 p.m., Edison High School, 701 Santa Monica Dr./78212

Aug. 29 (Thurs), 6 p.m., Lanier High School, 1514 W. Cesar E. Chavez Blvd./78207
Sept. 3 (Tues), 6 p.m., Brackenridge High School, 400 Eagleland Dr./78210

Sept. 5 (Thurs), 6 p.m., Sam Houston High School, 4635 E. Houston St./78220

On Nov. 13, 2023, the SAISD Board of Trustees approved a resolution on Facilities Planning and Development. Part of the resolution directed the superintendent to convene a panel who would make recommendations on how to make best use of all the district's vacant facilities, including those closed as the result of consolidating staff and students into fewer buildings – a process the district calls rightsizing. The resolution also confirms the district’s commitment to ensuring the buildings continue to benefit and serve the community.

The facilities repurposing process will formally begin later this fall once the district has hired a consultant to manage the Request for Proposal (RFP) process. Once the RFP process has opened, the panel will vet the proposal submissions and make recommendations to staff. At that time, the panel will convene additional public meetings, during which families and community members will be invited to provide input on the recommendations being considered for specific facilities.
