Sept. 17, 2024 – San Antonio ISD’s Dual Language, ESL and Migrant Department is hosting the 2nd annual “Viva la Familia” Parent Institute for District parents on Thursday, Sept. 19 at the Alamo Convocation Center, 110 Tuleta Drive, from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 a.m. The sessions will highlight how families may support their children from cradle to college, the benefits of dual language programs, and strategies for building community. 

Texas State Senator Jose Menendez (District 26) will welcome parents to this event. Presenters include University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA) Associate Professor of Instruction in Bicultural-Bilingual Studies Dr. Claudia Garcia Treviño, motivational speaker Dr. Jose Luis Zelaya, Irving Dual Language Academy Principal Mayra Gutierrez, and SAISD Family and Community Engagement Director Selene Garza. 

The event will feature SAISD mariachis, prize raffles, complimentary breakfast and lunch, helpful resources and information by local agencies and organizations, including Bibliotech, UTSA, San Antonio Food Bank, University Health System, Texas Diaper Bank, ImmSchools, Any Baby Can, Health Collaborative and the San Antonio Mexican Consulate’s Office of Exterior Affairs.
