Sept. 18, 2024 – San Antonio ISD’s Office of Family and Community Engagement is hosting renowned author, professor, and researcher Dr. Karen Mapp on Friday, Sept. 20 at the Alamo Convocation Center from 8:15 to 9:45 a.m. She will provide an inspiring keynote address titled, “Engage to Achieve: Practical Strategies for Educators,” to share innovative strategies to reframe and enhance home-school partnerships.
SAISD Superintendent Dr. Jaime Aquino will introduce Dr. Mapp, and SAISD leadership team employees, including assistant superintendents, principals, department directors, teachers, and parents will be among the attendees.
Dr. Mapp is an expert in dual-capacity framework, and how it can be used to benefit children. She will highlight how to create impactful family engagement practices that drive student academic success, including how to engage families and community partners to encourage school improvement, and how to improve transparency in student learning.

About Dr. Karen L. Mapp
Dr. Karen L. Mapp is a Professor of Practice at the Harvard Graduate School of Education (HGSE), and former Faculty Director of the Education Policy and Management Master’s Program. Over the past twenty-five years, her research and practice have focused on the cultivation of partnerships among families, community members and educators that support student achievement and school improvement. She holds a doctorate and master’s of education from the Harvard Graduate School of Education, a master’s in education from Southern Connecticut State University, and a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Trinity College in Hartford, Connecticut. She serves on the boards of the National Association for Family, School and Community Engagement and the Hyams Foundation.
