SAN ANTONIO (Oct. 9, 2024) – San Antonio ISD has launched a survey to gauge the community’s anticipation of how closed schools in their neighborhoods could be reimagined so that the buildings continue to benefit and serve them. The district is currently reaching out to the public online and in person at outreach events, including district athletic events, to gather community members’ priorities for available buildings.
The survey follows a series of community meetings the district held in August and September to explain the repurposing process and its timeline. It is the next step in the process to further engage others and to better determine the needs the repurposed buildings could meet.
The survey allows community members to select from potential uses that came up in previous outreach efforts. Potential uses include concepts around educational services for certain populations such as children under the age of 3, individuals needing special education resources, and adults; or, education around certain disciplines such as fine arts and STEM. Other recommendations from previous outreach that made it to the survey include services such as affordable housing, community or senior centers, parks and playgrounds, or physical and mental health resources.
Community members are encouraged to help create positive change by taking the short interest survey in English or Spanish at www.saisd.net/frpsurvey.
