MORE:
Students in the Theatre Leadership Committee in SAISD are leading a mini Día Del Teatro conference. Representatives from theatre programs at each district high school comprise the group, which is offering the conference to San Antonio ISD middle and high school students interested in theatre.
“Students are 100 times more likely to invest in a program and understand a concept when taught by a peer,” district theatre coordinator Elise Lopez said. “Students who teach know the material on a cellular level, which allows them to develop communication, confidence, and ownership of material. This type of experience creates powerful leaders who want to share their knowledge, experiences, and joy of theatre with others.”
Each class will be facilitated by a district theatre teacher with student teachers leading the class, allowing attendees to learn from their peers and student leaders to deepen their knowledge base while developing leadership and communication skills.
