WHAT: This is the first of three build-outs in which construction students from three SAISD schools will build 120 twin beds, 40 beds per construction program, to donate to children. Lanier High School students will kick off this effort by blitz-building 40 of the beds Thursday morning, followed by Sam Houston High School students the following day, and culminating with the last set of beds built by Jefferson High School students in April. The twin beds will be donated to Sleep in Heavenly Peace.

The Construction programs at Lanier, Sam Houston, and Jefferson high schools are working with the San Antonio chapter of Sleep in Heavenly Peace (SHP), a volunteer organization with a mission to provide twin beds and bedding to children. 

The collaboration involves three components:
• Twin bed construction and donation events
• Twin “Bed in a Bag” bedding set drive
• Applications from SAISD families for a total of 120 donated beds

Interested individuals may participate in the project by contributing a “Bed in a Bag” twin set, which includes a comforter and sheets. The project goal is to collect enough “Bed in a Bag” sets for each of the 120 twin beds.

The bedding is being collected at the following donation sites:
• SAISD Central Office lobby, 514 W. Quincy St., 78215
• Sam Houston High School, 4635 E. Houston St., 78220
• Lanier High School, 1514 W. Cesar E. Chavez Blvd., 78207
• Jefferson High School, 723 Donaldson Ave., 78201
