MEDIA ADVISORY
WHAT: In response to student requests, San Antonio ISD has developed “Peace Rooms” at some of its campuses. Research has consistently shown that students, especially teenagers, need social and emotional support in schools just as much as they need academic support. SAISD has already committed more than $2 million to open 14 peace rooms in 2025. A $200,000 federal grant through Bexar County helped fund this initiative. The unveiling of the Brackenridge High School peace room will be followed by a brief tour.

MORE:
Peace rooms support students who need a moment to process strong feelings or de-escalate a situation, allowing them to work through conflict and repair relationships. Student groups discuss common topics such as anxiety.
Peace rooms are a preventative and restorative approach to student support that foster healthy relationships and build critical skills for student success. Restorative peace room activities support students’ well-being, academic engagement, and social-emotional behavioral skills development.
Unique to this campus, funds for the furniture and materials in the classroom were made possible by a gift from the Carol Lee Jones Educational and Cultural Fund of the San Antonio Area Foundation through the SAISD Foundation. Lee Jones was a proud Brackenridge High School alumna whose estate annually funds projects and programs at her alma matter that keep students in school.
