Broadway Bank - MEDIA ALERT/REQUEST FOR COVERAGE
April 4, 2025
Broadway Bank is graduating its third FinPrep class, a tailored 7-part financial literacy youth program with the mission of inspiring educated financial decision-making in high school students. Launched in 2022, Broadway Bank created and designed the financial literacy program to be taught in underserved high schools to prepare them for life beyond the classroom. Topics include basic banking skills, money management, savings, stock market, credit 101 and making large purchases. The program included visits from Edison High School graduates working at Broadway Bank.
The FinPrep program will graduate 23 twelfth grade Edison High School Business P-TECH students at Broadway Bank’s Cheever Conference Center this Friday. Nine students will be awarded $500 college scholarships from Broadway Bank.
Also new this year, 12 FinPrep students completed a 16-hour certification program to become volunteer tax preparers with Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA). Broadway Bank incentivized the students with $100 gift cards to complete the certification process and a minimum of 10 hours of tax preparation for underserved individuals and families at a VITA site around San Antonio.
To date, Broadway Bank has graduated 77 Edison HS students from its FinPrep program. Edison High School is a SAISD Business Magnet School where students enrolled in the P-TECH program graduate with an associate’s degree in accounting or finance.
