Randy Badillo has been named head football coach at Jefferson High School.
This will be the first varsity football head coaching job for Badillo. He has 19 years of coaching experience and most recently served as the offensive coordinator at South San High School and assistant head football coach at West Campus High School since 2021.
It’s a homecoming of sorts for Badillo. He returns to San Antonio ISD where he began his coaching career as an offensive line coach at Edison High School from 2006 to 2008. He has helped his teams make the UIL state football playoffs eight times during his coaching career.
“I am excited for the opportunity,” said Badillo, a San Antonio native and graduate of McCollum High School. “I can’t wait to get started. It is late in the year, so I am ready to hit the ground running. There is a lot of pride in the community. There is a lot of support. It’s a great opportunity to build on the traditions of the past and leave a legacy for these players going forward.”
The St. Mary’s University graduate will inherit a Jefferson Mustangs team that made the state playoffs this past school year. He replaces longtime coach Edward Cardenas, who retired this spring.
“Coach Badillo is a great fit for Jefferson,” said Fred Anthony, SAISD senior executive director of athletics. “He is aware of the school’s deep roots in the community and I have no doubt that he and his staff will rise to the occasion.”
