A photo of Lucy KerleyLucy Kerley is the Senior Executive Director of Transportation and Vehicle Maintenance for the San Antonio Independent School District. With an impressive 30 years of experience in the transportation industry, Lucy E. Kerley has made significant contributions to pupil transportation. Most recently, she served as the Director of Operations for Pflugerville Independent School District (ISD) from 2021 to 2024, where she successfully implemented a fuel-saving program that dramatically reduced costs by minimizing idle time for buses, showcasing her commitment to efficiency and sustainability.

Prior to her role at Pflugerville ISD, Lucy was the Director of Transportation for Belton ISD from 2013 to 2019. During her tenure, she adeptly navigated her team through several organizational changes, including the introduction of the SMART Tag ID student safety system and the Safe and Civil Schools program, both aimed at enhancing student safety and creating a more secure learning environment. Her earlier experience includes serving as the Safety Training Supervisor at Belton ISD, where she developed a Continuous Training Program for bus drivers and CDL holders. At Taylor ISD, she was the Safety Training Coordinator, leading vital monthly safety meetings for drivers and monitors.

In addition to her professional achievements, Lucy is an active member of the Texas Association of Pupil Transportation and is certified as a TAPT Pupil Transportation Official. She is also a Certified Trainer for school bus drivers through the Texas A&M University TEEX program. Lucy holds an MBA in Business Administration and a Bachelor of Science in Business from the University of Phoenix. A proud graduate of Highlands High School, San Antonio, Texas.

 

Katelyn SaenzKatelyn Saenz is the Director of Operations for the Transportation Department. Mrs. Saenz has over 16 years of work experience in the customer service, banking, and transportation industry. Mrs. Saenz joined the SAISD Transportation Team in 2017. Mrs. Saenz started with the department as a Dispatcher, advanced to a Route Coordinator, was promoted to the Route Supervisor, and is now the Director overseeing all of these roles. During her career with Transportation, Mrs. Saenz has successfully decreased the number of routes and increased ridership, to provide the most efficient transportation service to our students. Mrs. Saenz is responsible for overseeing over 140 school bus routes that provide service for general and special education students at all of our elementary, middle, and high schools.  Mrs. Saenz also oversees over 18,000 yearly field trips for every athletic and extracurricular program in the district. Mrs. Saenz has worked collaboratively with other departments to expand the services provided to students to include the Rolling Readers program, Technology distribution buses, the SAISD Eats food delivery program, Jump Start extended learning program, and the addition of 500 stops for the start of the 2021 school year. Due to Mrs. Saenz involvement with the SAISD Eats program that delivered meals to students during the district shut down, she was nominated and selected as one of 7 frontline workers to perform the role of Mother Ginger in the Ballet San Antonio’s performance of The Nutcracker in December 2021. Mrs. Saenz pride and dedication to her work comes from being a proud parent of 2 SAISD students.

 

Antonio CasanovaAntonio Casanova is the Director of Fleet Maintenance for the San Antonio Independent School District.  He is a proud graduate of Luther Burbank High School, in the San Antonio Independent School District. Mr. Casanova owned and operated his own automotive repair business for over 20 years in the San Antonio area before joining SAISD. In July 2008 Mr. Casanova started his career with the Transportation department as a bus driver and trainer. Mr. Casanova won first place in the Santex Bus Rodeo for SAISD 2010. Shortly after he was hired by the SAISD Vehicle Maintenance Department and after 4 years was promoted to Vehicle Maintenance Supervisor in 2014. Mr. Casanova oversees the maintenance of all 252 school buses and 300 district vehicles. Mr. Casanova was a key component in the success of the districts grants to purchase new propane buses which lead to the reduction of harmful emissions and operating costs. Mr. Casanova is active in the community working with organizations that provide donations and college scholarships for students.
